| local congregations to abandon the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America - yet. By Bruce R. Posten Reading Eagle A year after the nationwide Evangelical Lutheran Church in America voted in elected-assembly to allow noncelibate gays and lesbians to serve as clergy, a segment of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod still considers itself among the loyal opposition. While some clergy and parishioners in the synod may look askance at the policy, no local Berks County congregation is leaping to leave the ELCA to join a newly organized North American Lutheran Church. The NALC convocation last week attracted 1,100 Lutherans in Grove City,... |

| GETTYSBURG, Pa. The town where the Civil War's tide-turning battle was waged is fighting dissension in its own ranks, with even hard-core preservationists split over a proposed casino that would rise near the historic battlefield and be named for the line that divided North and South.
